Kathryn Phillips: Boulez' music is very interesting and his style is unique.
Sarah Watkinson (year 9 ): After seeing him conduct one of his own works it inspired me to compose my own Boulez melody.Joanna Barlow (year 10 ): I think it is a good idea that we've got the chance to impersonate a famous composer's style.Ellen Woodhall (year 10 ): I really enjoyed listened to Boulez' music and have liked composing in his style.
Timo McVey (year 12): I've been inspired by Boulez' creativity with only a limited number of notes. I'd like to meet him and give him a copy of our piece which utilises one of his ideas; would he like it as a birthday present?
Nicole Raymen (year 12): I found working on Boulez' style interesting and inspiring. Doing the project has been an exciting and educational experience.
Trevor Morley: After having seen Boulez conduct his own piece in concert I'm beginning to understand how mood-changing music can be.Ellie Simpson (year 10): Boulez made me hear music in a different light; I hope he has a great birthday.Leila Pidgeon (year 10): not only have I learnt more about the abilities (capabilities?) of other instruments but I also have begun to accept new methods of composing.
Abigail Prince (year 12): I'm not used to Boulez' type of music and I've learnt that music does not have to be all nice tunes.
Wayne Corby (year 11): I've enjoyed working in Boulez' unique style and having a professional composer and players to help over an extended length of time.
Christiana Ratjaen (language assistant): I now wish I'd studied music at a more advanced level in Germany. My parents are impressed; they are flying in from Germany to hear me sing my own composition in the Purcell room.Brian Dipple (Head of Expressive and Performing Arts): Boulez' music has opened up a whole new soundscape for my students. Having Fraser to lead them in composition has enabled them not only to listen to their work as it evolves but also helped them to extend and develop short non-melodic motifs into longer pieces of music. They will never forget this experience.
